Who are the Knights?
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal organization founded in 1882 by the Blessed Father Michael J. McGivney in New Haven, Connecticut. Jesus the Divine Word Council 14775 serves the parish of Jesus the Divine Word in Huntingtown Maryland. Father Dan Leary founded the Council in 2007. Our current Chaplain, since 2015, is Father John Dakes.
What we do at Jesus the Divine Word
As Knights, we assist with the upkeep of the church, aid our parishioners, and we’re active in many other activities that serve the parish, parishioners, and our community. We participate in church/community yard sales, Halloween Trick or Trunk Night, the monthly Community Breakfast, and various other activities, many of which help the Knights raise funds for our annual Scholarships Program, or to make contributions to local community charities. This is why it’s important to be a Knight because we have so many activities and events where everyone is able to join us and help each other. We often say, “many hands make quick work”.
